How to Fix Low ROAS

Low ROAS is a symptom with several possible causes, and cutting budget before finding the right one often makes things worse. We check tracking, account structure, creative, landing pages and margins in turn, then fix whichever is actually dragging returns down.

How do you fix low ROAS?

Measure the baseline, find the root cause, fix the biggest leak first and then keep testing. For most businesses that means combining Performance Marketing Services, Google Ads Management Services, Meta Ads Management Services, rather than spending more on what already isn’t working.

When ROAS drops, teams usually blame the platform or the algorithm. Often the cause is closer to home. Purchase events fire twice or not at all, so the reported number is wrong. Campaigns are split so finely that bidding never has enough data. Creative has fatigued, landing pages are slow on mobile, or a price change made the offer less competitive. Sometimes the ROAS target itself is unrealistic for a new audience.

The first step is verifying tracking against your store or CRM data, including enhanced conversions and the Conversions API. Then we review account structure, search terms, placements, audience overlap and creative performance by concept. Landing page speed and conversion rate get checked alongside offer and pricing. Finally we compare ROAS targets with actual margins, since breakeven ROAS differs by product. Fixes are made in order of likely impact, with results tracked weekly.

What is a good ROAS?
It depends on your margins. A good ROAS is one above your breakeven point, which you can find by dividing one by your gross margin. A low-margin product needs a much higher ROAS than a high-margin one. Repeat purchases also matter, so first-order ROAS can sometimes sit lower.
Should we cut ad spend if ROAS is low?
Not straight away. First check whether tracking is accurate and whether the drop is specific to certain campaigns, products or audiences. Cutting everything can remove profitable activity along with the waste. Trim clearly unprofitable areas, fix the causes, and reallocate rather than simply reducing.
What causes low ROAS?
Most often: fragmented account structure; broken or missing conversion signals; too few creative variants to test.
How long does it take to fix low ROAS?
Quick wins are often visible in 2–6 weeks. Structural fixes take one to three months, depending on the root cause.
