Free UTM Link Builder

Traffic from emails, social posts, WhatsApp messages and partner links often lands under direct or referral in GA4, and a UTM link builder with fixed naming rules solves that. Use it to create tagged campaign URLs your whole team names the same way.

Build your tracked link

Your link

Lower-case and underscores keep reports clean. The builder does this for you.
Methodology

How this is calculated

Appends utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign and optional utm_term / utm_content to your URL, URL-encoded.

Estimates only. Your numbers stay in your browser.

Using the utm link builder

Enter the destination URL and choose source, medium and campaign, with optional content and term fields. The builder lowercases values, replaces spaces and warns about common errors such as using a campaign name as the medium. Saved presets keep naming identical across your team, which is where most UTM tracking falls apart: one person types Facebook, another fb, and reports split into separate rows.

Agree a short naming convention first: standard sources, a fixed list of mediums that match GA4 channel groupings, and a campaign naming pattern with a date or product. Never put UTMs on internal links within your own site, since that overwrites the original source. Keep a log of links created for reference.

See the analytics glossary for definitions of each parameter.

FAQ

Questions we often hear

What are UTM parameters?
They are tags added to the end of a URL that tell analytics tools where a visit came from: source, medium, campaign and optionally content and term. GA4 reads them to attribute traffic and conversions to campaigns.
Do I need UTMs on Google Ads links?
Usually not, if Google Ads is linked to GA4 with auto-tagging on, because it passes campaign data automatically. UTMs are most useful for email, social posts, WhatsApp, QR codes, partner links and other platforms without auto-tagging.
