Free Marketing Budget Calculator

Copying last year's figure and adding a bit is how most budgets get set, so our marketing budget calculator starts from your revenue goal and customer economics instead. It then splits the total across channels, content, tools and people.

Methodology

How this is calculated

Budget = revenue × chosen percentage. The channel split shifts with stage: launching brands weight paid media; mature brands invest more in retention.

Estimates only. Your numbers stay in your browser.

Using the marketing budget calculator

Start with your revenue target, average customer value and expected cost to acquire a customer, and the calculator estimates the marketing investment that target implies. The allocation section then lets you split the total between paid channels, content and SEO, creative production, tools and software, and agency or team costs, showing each as a share of the whole.

Treat the first output as a hypothesis. Keep a portion aside for testing new channels, and weight towards what has proven itself in your own data. Review quarterly rather than annually, since costs per lead change. A budget that ignores tracking and creative production usually underdelivers, so the calculator includes them as separate lines.

Use it with the ad spend calculator for channel-level detail.

How much should a business spend on marketing?
There is no universal figure. It depends on growth goals, margins, customer value and how established the brand is. Working back from the revenue you want and what a customer is worth gives a more defensible number than an industry rule of thumb.
How should I split my budget between channels?
Put most into channels with proven returns in your own data, a smaller share into testing, and protect spend on tracking and creative. Revisit the split each quarter as results come in.
