AWS cloud migration for manufacturers: ending outages at an industrial plant
AWS cloud migration for manufacturers has to work around production, and this plant's ageing on-site servers were costly and caused regular outages. We moved workloads in planned weekend phases, set up monitoring and backups, then right-sized resources, cutting infrastructure cost by 33%.

Where they started
Ageing on-site servers were expensive to run and caused regular outages at the plant.
The approachWhat we changed
We moved workloads to AWS in planned phases over weekends, set up monitoring and backups, and right-sized resources after launch.
What other businesses can take from this
Factories tend to keep servers running long past their best years, because replacing them means planning around production. Hardware ages, maintenance costs rise, and each failure stops work on the floor. Moving to the cloud feels risky for the same reason: nobody wants a migration that halts the plant.
Phasing removes most of that risk. Moving workloads over weekends kept production running, and monitoring and backups were in place before anything went live; a restore from backup now takes 15 minutes. Right-sizing after launch, once real usage was known, is where much of the saving came from, rather than guessing capacity in advance. There has been no unplanned downtime since launch.
This suits manufacturers whose server room has become a source of downtime rather than a safeguard.
