Why use a social media content calendar

Each row is one post, with columns for date, platform, format (Reel, carousel, Short, static, Story), content pillar, hook, caption, asset link, owner, approval status and paid boost yes or no. A results section records reach, saves, shares and clicks after a week, so the next month's plan draws on evidence. A pillars tab keeps the mix balanced between educational, product, community and brand posts.

Plan two to four weeks ahead and leave slots for trends and reactive posts. Batch production of video to save time. Adapt each post to the platform rather than copying one asset everywhere. Review the results column monthly and do more of what earned saves and shares.

It works alongside the main content calendar template for longer pieces.

FAQ

Questions we often hear

Straight answers to the things clients ask us most. If yours isn’t here, just ask.

How far ahead should I plan social media posts?
Two to four weeks for most brands. That gives time for design and approvals while leaving space for trends and timely posts. Campaigns and launches may need longer planning.
What are content pillars on social media?
They are the few recurring themes your posts cover, such as how-to tips, product use, customer stories and behind the scenes. Pillars keep content varied but recognisable, and make planning faster.
